Karela frustrate Hearts in Accra

Visiting Karela United held Accra Hearts of Oak to a frustrating 0-0 draw in their betPawa Premier League week-six tie at the Accra Sports Stadium yesterday.

It was not all-too a surprising result because of Karela’s history against the Phobians with whom they shared the spoils with at the same venue last season.

The Phobians were inspired by the presence of their predacious striker – Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, who looked ponderous in front of goal throughout the session, but blew off the chances that fell his way.

Karela United have remained a pain in the neck of Hearts since they broke into the top-flight in 2017, winning a game and drawing four in five meetings.

Hearts expatriate coach Slavko Matic, may have been aware of this ‘torture’ as he pushed his men forward in a bid to break that unkind record with Captain Gladson Awako controlling the midfield with elegance until he was replaced in the last quarter.

On a number of occasions, the visitors were able to weather the storm of onslaughts Hearts threw at them – and even threatened in fast counter-attacks.

Living to their character, Karela were dogged in their approach and defended stoutly till the end of proceedings.

In Samereboi, visiting Bibiani Goldstars worsened the plight of Samartex with a 3-0 hammering to stretch the loser’s winless stretch in the league.

Two goals from defender Yahaya Adraman and Ibrahim Laar combined to tear Annor Walker’s side apart.

Real Tamale United also put up a magnificent performance to beat Aduana Stars at home.
