Joe Ghartey confident of NPP presidential primary victory

A presidential aspirant for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Joe Ghartey, is confident and hopeful to win the party’s upcoming presidential primary.

He has presented a strong case for himself taking various Regional Executives through the work he had done as the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, as Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament and as Minister of Railways Development.

According to him, those positions in rule of law and order, Parliament and infrastructure development had prepared him for the position of President.

Addressing Greater Accra Regional Executives of NPP on his intention to contest the presidential primary and solicited for their votes, Mr Ghartey said a country which does not practice the rule of law could not progress and develop since equality before the law was critical.

“As Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, I did not only believed in rule of law but also practiced using it as a tool for social and economic engineering, I am of the firm view being an experienced legislator and former Deputy Speaker, I am hopeful and confident I will win the primary and eventually win the 2024 elections for NPP to retain power and become President of the Republic of Ghana.

“As president,I will develop a good working relationship with Parliament for benefit of the country and on railways development; I was glad when given opportunity to manage what is the most difficult infrastructure sector to manage which I did without much difficulty,” Mr Ghartey touted.

Mr Ghartey explained that by January 2020, the passenger lines from Takoradi to Tarkwa and Accra to Tema were operational but were closed due to COVID-19 pandemic since restrictions did not allow for trains to run at full passenger capacity and operating them was not sustainable.

He revealed that the development of the Western Line was ongoing and the Tema to Mpakadan line was almost complete and railway development would be key part of his development agenda when elected as President and mentioned other sectors that would receive attention by his government which would be lean, effective and efficient with maximum of 60 Ministers.

The Greater Accra Regional NPP Executives said they knew Mr Ghartey as hardworking, honest, and competent and were hopeful and confident to make inroads in the primary.
