I’ve not betrayed party by participating in pilot voters’ registration exercise – George Loh clarifies

The Volta Regional Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Loh, has stated that his decision to participate in the nationwide pilot voters’ registration exercise organised by the Electoral Commission (EC) is not a betrayal of the party.

According to him, party officials in all the regions, and not just him, took part in the exercise to have more proof to make it easier when defending their arguments on why the new voters’ register was not needed and backed the party’s decision to partake in the exercise.

Earlier, people had rumoured Mr Loh has betrayed his party by taking part in same exercise they have been protesting against for several months now but participated in registration at EC’s office in Ho, but he clarified he only did that to gather evidence to back party’s claims saying, “I only wanted to be sure EC will or will not do what they claim they will do.

“If they are piloting what they are saying are new machines, don’t we deserve to know what kind of things they are doing, if there are any hunky punky games, we prepare ourselves? All those doing mischief with the issue should stop because the card they gave is dummy and I cannot use it for any election,” he insisted.

Listing the challenges he encountered with the exercise, Mr Loh pointed out that in the long run, NDC now had proof they needed to further challenge the Electoral Commission, as he found many faults with processes and maintained that “I spent 20 minutes going through processes that were bad, during processes EC officials had to carry equipment because rains set in.

“They talked about facial recognition which we didn’t see,  and were not forthcoming with answers to questions, I believe they’ve been instructed not to answer pertinent questions, the exercise is confirmation of our stance as NDC we are on right track in opposing totally new register.

“From what I went through, the 700,000 we anticipate to happen in limited registration will be a challenge, let alone 18 million Ghanaians to be registered, coupled with people not having Ghana card and passport, clearly, we have been vindicated,” Mr Loh intimated. -citinewsroom.com
