Islamic Education Unit holds quiz for pupils in Wa Municipality

The Islamic Education Unit in the Upper West Region has organised a quiz competition for 25 Islamic schools in the Wa Municipality to enhance the intellectual abilities of the pupils.

The quiz competition was to test the pupils’ preparedness towards their academic work to ensure they improve on their academic performance in the Municipality.

At the end of the quiz which spanned several weeks, Fallahia Model Junior High School (JHS) emerged winners in the finals after contesting the Kabanye Islamic Model JHS which placed second as well as the Aswaj JHS and Fongo JHS which placed third and fourth respectively.

Fallahia Model JHS received GH₵ 5,000 citation and a trophy and exercise books and assorted gifts for each contestant.

The Regional Manager of the Islamic Education Unit, Alhaji Rashid Mahmoud, congratulated the participating schools for what he described as sterling performances throughout the competition.

He said the competition was to build the capacity and confidence of the students, and to enable them to articulate their views on issues affecting their surrounding and development.

“This quiz competition would go a long way to build the abilities of students and also improve their academic performances”, he said and commended teachers of the various schools for their hard work in preparing the students to present well through out the competition.

He urged the teachers to adopt quiz as one of the methods to testing the knowledge of pupils frequently to help build them up in their field of study.

Alhaji Mahmoud mentioned that the Education Unit was committed to improving educational outcomes throughout the region, and appealed to the pupils to take their studies seriously.

Pupils from participating schools and their teachers expressed joy and happiness for the opportunity offered them, indicating it would help to improve the performance of their schools.

They suggested that such programmes must be organised more often to help raise the interest of education in the region.
