Integrity training for players, officials begin today

The Integrity training for elite players and officials in the football ecosystem will start today ahead of the 2023/24 football season.

The training forms part of efforts to further uphold the integrity of the game, an FA statement said.

The upcoming integrity session will focus on match-fixing, match manipulation and betting aimed at educating everyone associated with the game – all club administrators, technical staff, and players.

“The Integrity session also aims to educate everyone about the dangers of match-fixing and match manipulation, as well as equip them with the necessary knowledge and tools to identify and appropriately respond to such situations,” the statement said.

It said “The primary objective is to ensure that everyone (club administrators, technical staff and players) involved in the business of football is well-informed about the risks associated with match-fixing and to foster a proactive approach within the club to safeguard the credibility of the game.”

The session will be conducted via Zoom to ensure convenience and accessibility for all participants.

In another development, the FA President, Mr Simeon-Okraku, has affirmed the association’s commitment to develop grass root football across the country.

The GFA in collaboration with FIFA has already set in motion the FIFA Football for Schools project in Ghana.

The programme which was in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Youth and Sports saw 50 trained Physical Education (PE) teachers and 100 school kids undergo rigorous training in grassroots football.

“You having passed this exams marks the beginning of transferring same to other people and to our kids’’ he said.

“He said “If the programme is to be successful, it hinges on your passion, commitment and active participation in it until we otherwise advise. The fact that you are here today speaks volumes of your commitment to be part of a big story that has started unfolding’’.

“We have already announced the implementation of our special boarding school football academy project; the first pilot will definitely start from the Upper East region specifically at the Bolgatanga Senior High School. “

The FA, he said, working with the Ghana Education Service, Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Education would set up the first ever Senior High School Football Academy Project at the Bolgatanga Senior High School in the Upper East region.

That, he explained, would be the very first one but the vision was to repeat the same in all the regions in Ghana; so the first three will be in the Upper East, Ashanti and the Greater Accra regions.”
