Identify, tackle devt needs of c’nities – Chiefs urged

Traditional authorities have been urged to support the government’s efforts by identifying and tackling development challenges in their communities.

As the embodiment of the people and custodian of culture and tradition, the government will continue to engage them in identifying and tackling the development needs of the people.

Justina Owusu-Banahene, the Bono Regional Minister, assured traditional authorities the government would continue to rely on them towards the progress, growth and development of local communities.

According to her, without engaging traditional authorities in development processes, there would be no linkages between the government, traditional authorities and the people thereby stalling growth and development of areas.

The Regional Minister made the call when she interacted with members of the Awuah-Domase Traditional Council in the Sunyani West Municipality as part of her day’s working visit to the area.

Accompanied by other key staff of the Regional Coordinating Council, the visit afforded Madam Owusu-Banahene the opportunity to interact with the people and identify developmental challenges in the municipality and assured of steps to be taken for the government to address them through the Municipal Assembly and other state agencies and organisations in the community.

“The government will sustain its support and assistance to traditional authorities in identifying and tackling developmental challenges of their respective communities so as not to impoverish the people but improve livelihoods and as the embodiment of the people and custodian of culture and tradition, the government willnot relent on its responsibility.

“The support and assistance of traditional authorities was always needed in implementation of government policies, programmes and social interventions and with implementation of the Electronic Transaction Levy (e-levy) required your assistance and support for the nation to achieve the desire benefits,” Madam Owusu-Banahene indicated.

She noted that she had forwarded critical socioeconomic development issues including the Odumase town roads to the appropriate quarters and hinted that soon residents would witness the reshaping of the roads and appealed to traditional authorities
to be security conscious and help fish out people with strange movements and questionable characters in their localities.

Kusi Buadum, the Sunyani West Municipal Chief Executive, said the government appreciated the contributions of key personalities from the traditional area towards the development of the country and specifically mentioned the late Joseph Henry Mensah, a former minister of state and a native of the town.

He revealed that the government would reward the sterling contributions of the late statesman by reshaping the Odumase town roads as a befitting legacy in his honour.
