The Islamic Charity Centre for Women Orientation (ICCWO), a non-government organisation (NGO) comitted to the empowerment of women, last Sunday wrapped up its series of Ramadan Tafsir (explanation of Qu’ran verses) with a call on women to be steadfast, uphold the virtues of Islam and seek the path of righteousness.
An Islamic scholar and leader of the Centre, Hajia Malama Aida Jibriel, made this passionate appeal in a Tafsir in Accra to close the annual religious event attended by women from all the 35 branches across the country.
Wrapping up the 2024 Ramada Tafsir with Suratul Al-am, Hajia Jibril called on Muslims to be prayerful and seek the blessings of Allah and avoid negative and unIslamic tendencies to evoke the wrath of Allah.
The theme for the Tafsir was ‘whoever does good righteousness, it is for his (own) soul; and whoever does evil (does so) against it. And your Lord is not ever unjust to (His) servants.’(Qu’ran 41:46).
Tafsir offers a platform for Muslim scholars to expatiate the verses of the Holy Quran for the comprehensive understanding of the adherence of Islam.
It is the tradition of the Holy Prophet of Islam, during his prophethood in which Allah revealed the Quran to him in piecemeal in 610 CE over a period of 23 years, and Tafsir became an annual ritual during Ramadan.
The congregation prayed for peace, stability and prosperity of the country, especially in the upcoming elections.
The Tafsir gathering was also used to launch an appeal for fund to finance the activities of the Centre, including provision of educational facilities for Muslim communities and skills training for the empowerment of women.
In attendance were delegations from the office of the Second Lady, Samira Bawumia, who made donation to support the centre, similarly a delegation from the office of the former president, Mahama, led by Member of Parliament for Ayawaso North Constituency, Yussif Jajah, made donation on behalf of the former President.
A Physician Assistant at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Hajia IIham Mohammed Misbawu, made a presentation on cervical cancer, an abnormal and uncontrolled growth of cells on or around the cervix, and also a leading cause of death of women in Ghana.
She appealed to women “to undergo regular checkup and screening” to know their status and take measure to avoid the medical condition.
In another presentation, a legal practitioner with the office of the Attorney-General’s Department, Hajia Humu Zakari, spoke on “child care and protection”, urging parents to take proper care of their children, and pointed out that it was a criminal offence for parents to neglect their children.
