Hohoe Municipal Assembly exceeds revenue target

The Hohoe Municipal Assembly, Volta Region, at the end of 2018, mobilised GH¢1,008,427.35 as its Internally Generated Fund (IGF).

The figure represents 102 per cent of the Assembly’s 2018 total projected IGF of GH¢990,890.00.

Mr Andrews Teddy Ofori, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), announced this at the First Ordinary Meeting of the Fourth Session of the Assembly.

He stated that the annual IGF performance for 2018 was better than that of 2017 and 2016.

Mr Ofori attributed the success to “pragmatic steps” such as resourcing collectors, addressing grievances of collectors timeously, distribution of demand notices on time and setting of targets for collectors.

He said regular community engagements to intensify public education on the need for payment of taxes and fees also yielded results.

Mr Ofori said personnel of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) were helping in bill distribution to address concerns of inadequate staffing but lamented over the non-functioning of the zonal councils.

He said various releases for the year were disbursed including a package to about 252 people made up of 127 females and 125 males with disability under the Persons with Disability (PWD) Fund.

The intervention covered educational support for five students, medical bill for 13 and business start-up capital and tools for 234 beneficiaries.

He noted that the PWD Fund was making great impact in the lives of beneficiaries and that they were utilising it to create jobs for themselves.

Mr Ofori said the Assembly also supported beneficiaries under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme.

Thirty communities were mobilised for the 53rd to 56th cycles payment of households where 959 households made up of 2,064 males and 2,300 females benefited from GH¢127,674.00 within the year under review.
