Residents of Hobor Asabade at Ashalaja in the Ga West Municipality have called on the government and security agencies to come to their aid, following recent attacks on their lives by some unknown individuals dressed in military uniforms.
According to the Head of Family for Hobor Asabade, Marshwood Bannor, who spoke to the Ghanaian Times in an exclusive interview on Thursday in Accra, residents were living in fear following the recent invasion of their lands by the individuals who were also causing disturbances in the area.
“We are in dire need of security in the area to stop the recent attacks on our people and ensure law and order within Ashalaja and its environs,” he stated.
The disturbance, he said, had been going on for the past two months leading to the death of a young man in the area.
Personally, he said he had been on the run for his life as he feared being attacked by the persons following several threats on his life.
“I have abandoned my home and on the run as I was nearly attacked by the individuals about a month ago. Luckily, I managed to hide and they could not find me when they invaded my home with weapons,” he stated.
He called on the government and the security agencies to immediately come to their aid since the residents were living in fear and unable to go about their daily activities.
“The security agencies must come and arrest the individuals for questioning as they were causing unrest in the area,” he stated.
He said, they needed peace and unity to foster development within the area and security agencies must get involved to ensure that the people were safe and lived comfortably.
One of the elders in the area, Nii Odame Kojo II, added that, people must not take laws into their hands as there were better ways to deal with land disputes.
“Chiefs and elders must come together, discuss the issues and settle amicably to avoid the loss of lives and properties,” he advised.
In addition, he said the laws of the land must be obeyed and urged the chiefs in the area to call the people to order.
