Ho Assembly takes delivery of 200 street lights

THE Ho Municipal Assembly has taken delivery of 200 sets of street lights from the Ministry of Energy for installation at vantage points in the regional capital.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), John Nelson Akorli, disclosed this to the Ghanaian Times in Ho on Tuesday.

He said that every area in the municipality needed to be illuminated to curb the rising trend of crimes in the municipality.

Mr Akorli mentioned the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Campus area, Goshen City, Nursing Training College area, Barracks, New Town and SSNIT Flats among flashpoints where the lights would be installed.

He said that the street along the Galenku Hill from OLA towards the Taviefe direction would be given priority in the illumination exercise.

The MCE declined to disclose the cost of the street lights.

Meanwhile, Mr Akorli has said that unauthorised parking spaces in the municipality would also be cleared in the fight against lawlessness.

He cited the congested at Ho-Guinness area as a result of it being used as a car park and the Timber Market as areas which would be cleared in due course as part of measures to enforce sanity in the regional capital.

In a related development, Mr Akorli announced that a special task force had been deployed to ruthlessly enforce sanitation laws in the assembly’s efforts to make Ho an open-defecation-free area before the end of the year, saying, “we can no longer stand the sight of adults exposing their genitals in public to defecate or urinate anywhere.”
