Hearts, Oly clash in Kumasi Friday

Kumasi football fans would witness the joy and excitement that comes with the main Accra derby between Accra Hearts of Oak and Accra Great Olympics Friday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The derby has been moved to the Ashanti regional capital as both combatants move their home games to Kumasi as events related to the Christmas festivities take over the Accra Sports Stadium.

It will highlight the match day 16 fixture of the Ghana Premier League (GPL), and has been tagged as a battle for strugglers as the two traditional clubs struggle to stay clear off stormy waters.

The past three weeks fixtures has been like a round-robin for Hearts, Kotoko and Olympics as they engage each other in a week.

Kotoko started the format with a game against Hearts which they run out 3-2 victors and held Olympics to a goalless encounter last Sunday.

Hearts would face their regional foes tomorrow in the final of the triangular match-ups that would also bring up the issue of bragging rights.

By losing to Kotoko, Hearts lost the first bragging rights to the Porcupine Warriors and has the final one to guard against Olympics.

Olympics have failed to score in their recent outings, marking a gradual drop on the league table and has the same number of points as the Phobians but with less matches.

But the Phobians have gone fruitless in their last six clashes with Olympics who appears to have discovered a magic wand that seems to be working some magic in favour of them.

Coach Annor Walker is touted as the man with the knack to plot the Phobian’s fall in such high profile games and sadly for Hearts, he will be in the saddle again for the Wonder Club.

But Hearts could spark a new attitude when they line up the pitch in attempt to halt what has become an unbelievable trend in matches against the two sides.

Subsequent game on Saturday would be a clash between Berekum Chelsea FC and Bofoakwa Tano FC in a Bono-derby at the Golden City Park in Berekum.

Bofoakwa has been finding it very tough in away games but the home ban over crowd misbehavior has worsened their plight, losing games after games and it does not look like stopping on this match day as Chelsea aim to snatch all three from the game.

Kumasi Asante Kotoko would play home to Real Tamale United at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in what promises to be an explosive encounter as Nsoatreman returns to the Nana Konamansah Park to welcome Aduana Stars in a cagey encounter.

At the Dawu Theatre of Dreams, Dreams FC will engage Accra Lions in what promises to be fireworks with Bechem United coming face to face with Nations FC at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park.

In other games, Samartex FC will host Karela United at the Nsenkyire Sports Complex; Legon Cities against Heart of Lions at the Theatre of Dreams on Monday, while Medeama SC go face to face with Goldstars at the Akoon Park on Tuesday.
