Headteacher granted GHC80,000 bail for defiling girl, 15

A headteacher, who was asked to assist a 15-year-old final year Junior High Student in extra classes, but allegedly defiled her, has been granted GHC80,000 bail by Accra Circuit Court.

George Agyekum, 44, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of defilement, was requested to provide three sureties, two to be justified with landed property worth GHC50,000.

The headteacher after allegedly defiling the victim, gave her capsules to swallow and insert into her private part, to prevent pregnancy, but she refused.

The court presided over by Mrs Christina Cann, ordered prosecution to file its witness statements, and adjourned the case to November 23.

Chief Inspector, Kofi Atimbire, said the complainant was a trader residing at Shaibu, near Dansoman, together with the victim, her daughter.

The court heard that Agyekum was a headteacher of a school (name withheld) at Dansoman.

Prosecution said the victim’s father asked Agyekum to organize extra classes for the victim towards her final examinations.

Chief Insp. Atimbire said on September 6, this year, in the evening, Agyekum told the victim that her (victim) father asked him to assist her with lessons.

Prosecution said Agyekum lured the victim into his room and allegedly had sexual intercourse with her.

Chief Insp. Atimbire stated that after the act, Agyekum gave the victim GHC50.00 and later gave her capsules to swallow and insert into the private part to prevent pregnancy.

The court heard that the victim, after collecting the capsules, refused to swallow and inset them as instructed by Agyekum.

Prosecution told the court that the victim narrated her ordeal to a good samaritan, who reported the case to the complainant.

Chief Insp. Atimbire said on September 17, this year, the complainant reported the incident to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service at Dansoman, and Agyekum was arrested.

Prosecution said police issued a medical form to the complainant to seek medical care for the victim. – GNA
