Gunmen raid Walewale, rob money vendors, lotto operator

Five persons have suffered injuries from two separate armed robbery attacks in a community near Walewale in the West Mamprusi municipality  of the North East Region, on Friday and Saturday night.

The robbers have not only succeeded in taking away monies and other valuables belonging to victims,  but also subjected them to severe beatings.

An eyewitness told the Ghanaian Times that the gunmen arrived at the community on a motorbike,  fired indiscriminately before targeting two mobile money vendors and a lotto operator.

According to him, the robbers tried to strap the traders within the vicinity amidst several warning shots to keep them in check.

He stated the shooting of the armed robbers forced some businessmen and women at the area to flew.

A source from the Regional Police Command confirmed the incident, and indicated that investigation into the matter had commenced.

Assemblyman for the area, Seidu Kamal, in a telephone interview with the Ghanaian Times, expressed worry about ascendency of armed robbery cases in the area, and called on the security to intensify patrols on the roads.

He revealed that there were similar attacks and robbery in the area last month, and a young man was robbed of his motorbike.
