Gt. Oly pip Karela Utd.

Accra Great Olympics yesterday defeated visiting Karela United 1-0 to extend their unbeaten run in their last four games.

The victory which came through a 15th minute strike from midfielder Prince Kwadwo Afrifa was enough to help coach Yaw Preko’s men snatch their first win over the Anyinase club in their last three meetings.

Afrifa who played a beautiful one-two pass with Samuel Ashie Quaye got to the end of that to pick a pass in the visitors’ goal area and with goalkeeper Prince Asempa at his mercy, Afrifa fired the ball into the far corner for the only goal.

Karela fought hard through the second half and were presented with the best chance of the afternoon which fell to Umar Farouk on the 76th minute but with only Benjamin Asare to beat he shot over the goal line.

Substitute Gideon Ofei almost made it 2-0 for Olympics on the 80th minute mark but his goal bound header was acrobatically dealt with by Asempa.

Olympics have thus recorded two victories on the bounce after drawing two games earlier.

They would next face Accra Lions on Thursday at the Accra Sports Stadium in a local derby.
