An operational manual for the implementation of the Ghana School Feeding Programme (GSFP) is being reviewed to meet current needs.
The GSFP is revising the document with support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
Consequently, a workshop was been organised by the GSFP in Accra, yesterday, to ensure broader engagement between regional coordinators, zonal coordinators and other regional staff of the programme, to solicit input to enrich content of the manual.
It was organised for stakeholders in the Southern Zone, comprising Western, Western North, Central, Greater Accra, Eastern, Volta and Oti regions.
A similar event was held in Sunyani, for participants from the Northern Zone comprising: Ashanti, Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, Upper East, Upper West, Northern, Savannah and North East regions.
It was meant to brief participants about GSFP’s revised operations manual and its implications for staff, stakeholders and strategic partners, and solicit views from staff before validation of the document.
The National Co-ordinator of the GSFP, Mrs Gertrude Quashigah, said her outfit was working hard to give GSFP a new face, adding that the review of the manual had become necessary in view of the changing exigencies.
She urged the stakeholders to adjust to the new operational approach in order to help change the image of GSFP.
“It is the collective responsibility of all of us to play our roles dutifully and to make sure that the face of school feeding programme is lifted and made attractive,” Mrs Quashigah said.
She commended UNICEF for supporting GSFP, especially in the area of technical assistance and capacity building.
The GSFP National Co-ordinator called for co-operation among all the regional and zonal co-ordinators and caterers.
Mr William Niyuni, a consultant for the drafting of the manual, said the operational manual would be implemented at the national, regional and district levels.
He said that the manual is divided into six chapters, thus planning, implementation, monitoring and sustainable operation of the GSFP in all districts.
The Director of Operations at the GSFP, Mrs Doris Gaba, urged caterers of the GFSP to co-operate with the zonal and regional coordinators, to ensure the smooth operation of the programme.
The Director of Monitoring and Evaluation for GSFP, Mrs Akyere Manu-Frimpong, asked the regional coordinators to effectively monitor activities of caterers.
