GSBF signs pact with Los Angeles Dodgers

The Ghana Baseball and Softball Federation (GBSF) has announced a partnership agreement with American professional baseball team, Los Angeles Dodgers.

The agreement was aimed at developing and spreading the game of baseball and softball across all the regions in the country.

The 2020 Major League Baseball World Series champions are on a 10-day visit to the country, after identifying Ghana as one of the thriving African countries with the potential of doing well with the right support, focus and dedication from managers of the sport in the country.

Under the theme “Creating Partnerships for the Good of the People”, the partnership will help the less privilege in society and give opportunity to the kids who have love for the sport to realise their dreams of playing the sport.

Speaking at the official announcement of the partnership on Friday, the Head of Player Development and Director at Los Angeles Dodgers, Mr. Joe Harrington said their mission was to build the foundation of the game and allow kids to realise their dreams.

The president of the GBSF, Mr. Ernest Danso described the partnership as win-win for the Federation and kids that will be scouted by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He said by the partnership, kids found on the streets and in deprived communities with interest in the sport would be selected and trained while enjoying free first class education and free meals alongside playing as well.

“Los Angeles Dodgers have done this successfully in Uganda and have gone ahead to give young players there a life in the sport by giving them professional contracts and many more. This is what we seek to replicate here in Ghana.”

The Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) Mr. Kenneth Annang, who represented the sector minister, thanked the Los Angeles Dodgers for identifying Ghana as one of the African countries to develop the sport.

He congratulated the GBSF for their vision to spread the game across all the 16 regions.
