GRIDCo  marks safety week

The Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) Limited has climaxed its safety week with a call on staff to take their health and safety seriously.

At a Safety Durbar and Awards ceremony last Friday, Chief Executive Officer of GRIDCo, Mr Ebenezer Kofi Essienyi stated that safety week celebrations served as a reminder of their individual and collective responsibilities to remain in good health and to collectively act in a manner that would promote safety culture

The Safety Durbar was the climax of various activities which sought highlight its importance among GRIDCo Staff across all the Nine Operational Areas for both the Technical and Non-Technical Staff.

Speaking on the theme, “Act Together to Build A Positive Safety and Health Culture”, Mr. Essienyi thus, underscored the need for the staff to undertake a medical checkups at least once a year and also take advantage of the on-site clinic whose services were available to them to ensure that they lived healthily.

According to him, GRIDCo’s core value of safety, required of them to be committed to upholding the highest safety standards and environmental practices that guaranteed a work environment that was positive, productive, healthy and safe to work in.

Pleased with the involvement of staff in activities that preceded the durbar, Mr. Essienyi lauded the outcome of a safety quiz competition held in Bolgatanga.

To him, the outcome demonstrated the keen interest of staff in safety issues that were critical to the operations of GRIDCo saying, “I was happy to learn that for the first-time, non-operational Areas swept the 1st and 2nd positions at the recent Safety Quiz”.

“This showed that Safety should not be seen as the purview of only technical staff. I urge us all to emulate the example and strive to know all our Safety Rules, Policies and Requirements”, he stated.

In line with the above, Mr. Essienyi encouraged the workers to know GRIDCo’s safety rules and abide by them, follow safety procedures, learn to use safety equipment such as fire extinguishers and other

equipment, respect the safety controls which were in place to protect life and GRIDCo’s facilities.

Occupational Safety and Health Academy (OSHA) certificates and Work Area Safety Committee (WASACO) Awards were presented to sixty six (66) staff with Seth Gokah emerging as best performing staff, Michel Selasie Avuletey winner of the Safety Quiz competition while Kennedy Opetey Appiah received the Special CEO Award.
