GPHA supports northern schools with Mathematics books

The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), has donated 2,000 Mathematics textbooks to some 20 selected second cycle schools in the Northern, North East, Upper East and Upper West regions.

The books valued at GH¢10,000.00 was part of the authority’s corporate social responsibility to the society.

The beneficiaries included Northern School of Business, Tamale Girls SHS, Pong-Tamale SHS, Savelugu SHS, Gambaga Girls SHS and Walewale SHS/Technical, Nalerigu SHS, Yendi SHS, Business SHS, St. Bernadette Technical Institute.

The rest are Bolgatanga Girls SHS, Bongo SHS, Awe SHS/Technical, Hilla Limann SHS, T l Ahmadiyya SHS, Kanton SHS, Islamic SHS, Birifoh SHS, Paga Community Day SHS and Sandema SHS.

Mrs Nana Esi Quansah-Soderberg, Deputy Marketing and Corporate Affairs Manager and Executive Assistant to the Director General, made the donations here in Tamale at the weekend.

She explained that the objective of the donation was to help enhance the teaching and learning of Mathematics.

Mrs Quansah-Soderberg emphasised that the selection of the beneficiary schools was based on their peculiar problems and needs.

She affirmed that the company was ready to support students to excel in Core Mathematics in the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Mrs Quansah-Soderberg stated that the poor performance of students in Mathematics at the basic should not continue and advised students to take Mathematics studies seriously in order to pass with distinction.

Mr Adam Gunu, Assistant Headmaster of the Tamale Girls SHS, commended the GPHA for the gesture.

He indicated that the donations would go a long way to help reverse the poor performance of students in Mathematics and urged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the books to increase their knowledge in the subject.
