The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) has described as disappointing and embarrassing attempts by the two major political parties in the country, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to score cheap political points with the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
It called for an immediate ceasefire, as such partisan activities would not inure to the benefit of the citizenry since COVID-19 was no respecter of any political party or person, hence the need for a collective and collaborative fight against the virus.
The NDC has been berating Vice President Dr Muhammadu Bawumia for stating that the NPP and President Nana Akufo-Addo were better managers of crises than the NDC and former President John Mahama in response to former President Mahama’s constant criticism of how the government was handling the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
According to Bishop S.N. Mensah, an executive member of the Council and the President of the Full Gospel Church International, “everybody has been affected by COVID-19, it’s a life and death issue, we are told we are in a war, you’re dealing with an enemy we can’t see but that enemy is seriously destroying, why must we make political gains out of it? Why should we turn it into partisan politics? I think it is disappointment and an embarrassment, I think it’s a shame for Ghana.
“I think it’s a sad moment if we have the two major political parties turn the whole issue into partisan acrimony, I think the government should stay focused and then find out how to fight the unseen enemy and all of us should rally behind one government, one leader called the president, one government to try to solve the scourge,” Bishop Mensah pointed out. -classfmonline.com
