The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC), has cautioned the public to be wary of strange mobile phone calls, spams and mobile money messages on phones saying they are decoy by kidnappers.
In an interview with the Ghanaian Times on Friday, the Chair of the council, Reverend Professor Paul Frimpong Manso, noted that kidnappers obtained personal information from social media and online platforms to bait people.
He disclosed that the council would engage its churches to begin intensive nationwide educational campaigns on kidnappings to avoid being a prey to them.
Rev. Prof. Frimpong Manso cautioned Ghanaians not to harbour people involved in suspected criminal activities, but report such suspicious characters to the appropriate authorities.
Touching on children who were the most vulnerable and profound targets of kidnappers, Rev. Prof. Manso urged parents to pay special attention to their wards by monitoring their activities regularly.
He praised the security agencies for their swift action in the rescue of the two kidnapped Canadian girls, and called on government to treat the issues of kidnapping as a national crisis.
The council chair also called for swift action to tackle the canker adding that by beefing up security at the boarders, “you will be preventing entry to potential criminals.”
Rev. Prof. Manso condemned the politicisation of issues of safety of citizens among political parties in attempt to gain political points.
“It’s important for us as a country to view and discuss human issues away from political lenses to gain favour from the public, let’s tackle social issues objectively in order to get proper outcomes”.
He called for peace between the locals and the Nigerian communities so that both countries can continue to enjoy their brotherly bond.
