Govt launches new digital platform for online scholarship application

As part of measures to ensure transparency in the management of scholarships in the country, Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia yesterday launched a new digital platform for the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat to receive scholarship applications online.

The purpose of the online application process, which takes effect from today, is to ensure full transparency in the application process, ensure easy auditing, and give applicants the opportunity to track their applications online.

Speaking at the lunch of the online platform (scholarshipgh.com) at the Jubilee House, Vice President Bawumia said the new system would help capture accurate data of scholarship beneficiaries and track their academic progress.

He said the platform would ensure easy linkages between the scholarship secretariat and the universities as well as the various embassies for easy validation.

The embassies can now vary from the online platform before giving visa to scholarship beneficiaries to study abroad, he added.

“In just four easy steps, applicants can conveniently apply for scholarships from the comfort of their homes and receive instant feedback on the status of their application.”

“You don’t have to worry about your application. You can track it at any stage of the process,” he said.

The four steps of the application process, according to the Vice President, was for applicants to open the web address, create an account to register; complete an online aptitude test and, based on the results, receive an instant message on a date for interview at their various districts.

The Vice President commended the visionary leadership of the management of the secretariat for the strategic reforms being implemented at the secretariat.

He entreated all stakeholders to embrace the new initiative for the benefit of Ghanaian students, especially the vulnerable and urged interested persons to begin their application immediately.

He said people could still apply for scholarships online during the period of restriction.

The Registrar of the Scholarship Secretariat, Mr Kingsley Agyeman, said the secretariat, before 2017, had only two computers but had made history by going 100 per cent digitised in just three years,

“This exponential leap or paradigm shift wouldn’t have been possible without the inspiration of the Vice President of the Republic.”

“Today, the person who sits in Borle, Asiakwa, Aowin, in just a click of scholarshipgh.com can have access to scholarship,” he said.
