A Ghanaian owned airline, Goldstar Air, in collaboration with Universal Kindness Outreach (UKO) Ghana, has presented 35 boxes of assortment of personal protective equipment (PPE) to the Weija/Gbawe Municipal Hospital in Accra to enhance their fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The items which included face shields and face masks were presented on behalf of both companies by Nii Amoo Dodoo of UKO Ghana and John Ashong-Mettle of Goldstar Air, to Mr Yakubu Amidu Mohammed, Principal Health Service Administrator of the Weija/Gbawe Municipal Hospital.
Mr Mohammed expressed gratitude to Goldstar Air and UKO, for the priceless gesture and implored other corporate bodies to follow suit and assist the health facility to ensure effective and efficient healthcare delivery to the citizenry.
The manager of cargo service department of the airline, Mr John Ashong-Mettle said that the gesture was also to boost the morale of the officers to enable them give of their best and stay out of harm’s way.
Speaking to the Ghanaian Times later, Mr Ashong-Mettle announced plans by Goldstar Air to utilise the country’s status as the “Gateway to West Africa” to develop the West Africa market by introducing scheduled flights from all the ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States) countries through Accra (Hub) to the rest of the world.
The airline, he said, would institute low-cost carrier packages and tour operations methodology, which had to date been successful with many airlines and plans to inject a rapid growth to the West African tourism market, which was currently under-serviced.
The airline will also sign agreement with courier service companies that have the skill-set for security, tracking service and can also provide fast and reliable services throughout Ghana to and from the airport for a shorter delivery time.
The company, Mr Ashong-Mettle stated was projecting a fleet of 100 modern aircraft to a network of 90 key business and leisure destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, Caribbean and North America.
Other officials present at the occasion included Mr Edmund Lamptey (cabin crew), Mr Edwin Lamptey (cabin crew), Pastor William Commey (UKO), Naa Ode Adenku I, and Nii Ashie Kotei.
