Goldstar air, a Ghanaian owned airline has donated items worth GH¢30,000 to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture towards this year’s World Tourism Day.
The items were made up of 400 branded t-shirts and 1,000 pieces of face shields and face masks.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Goldstar Air, Eric Bannerman stated that the gesture was in support of the World Tourism Day celebrations in Hohoe, Volta Region today.
“We are supporting the ministry’s effort in the growth of the tourism sector for national development,” he added.
Today’s event in Hohoe, he said, would be characterised by tree planting, Afadzato hiking challenge and climaxed with a grand durbar.
The Deputy Minister of Tourist Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku-Mantey, received the items on behalf of the sector minister, Dr Mohamed Awal and congratulated Goldstar Air for their generous contribution to the tourism sector’s development.
At the presentation ceremony was the Chief Director, of the ministry, Yao Agbeko, Mr George Harrison Kankam and other management staff members.
Giving some highlight of their operation, Mr John Ashong-Mettle, manager of the airline’s cargo service department, said the company’s goal was to inject quick development into the underserved West African tourism industry where “we want to use Ghana’s role as the gateway to the West African market by offering regular flights in all Economic Community of West African States, North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.
The other objective Mr Ashong-Mettle said was to increase the number of tourists to Ghana making it the tourism hub.
According to him, although there were isolated upheavals in some neighboring West African countries from time to time, Ghana still maintained a stable political and economic climate, hence Ghana was a preferred place for potential investors and tourists being a low-risk, high-value proposition.
“Goldstar Air will contribute to the growth of the Ghanaian economy by making international travel inexpensive and accessible. Improve the lives of Ghanaians by making foreign travel affordable and accessible, as well as providing employment opportunities and aviation-related training to Ghanaians, particularly the youth,” he said
Some officials of Goldstar Air at the occasion were Mr Edmund Lamptey Executive Assistant; Mr Eric Omaboe, Head of Security; Mr Edwin Lamptey and Abraham Armah both cabin crew.
