Gold Fields Ghana Limited (GFGL) Tarkwa Mines, has donated 700 mono desks valued at GH¢100,000 to the Tarkwa Senior High School (SHS) and Fiaseman SHS in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipality of the Western Region.

The presentation of the mono desks was Gold Fields’ contribution to build a credible society made with knowledgeable citizens.

Presenting the desks, the Vice President and the Head of Human Resources GFGL, Mr Francis Eduku, believed that the donation would help to address the infrastructure deficit in schools within the mine’s host communities and also boost education within the municipality.

He pointed out that because education had been one of the critical pillars in the socio-economic development of their host communities; the mines had assisted over 1,382 students in their operational areas onto their scholarship scheme since 2005 to date.

“Aside that we have invested close to $7.3 million in education so it goes to tell you how we have placed education at the centre of our community development agenda,” Mr Eduku added.

The headmistress of Tarkwa SHS,  Ms Paulina Akosua Manu,  assured the donors that the desks would be put to good use and maintained regularly to enhance teaching and learning.

For his part, the headmaster of Fiaseman SHS, Mr John Kofi Sago, noted that the donation of the desks was timely and it would improve academic delivery in the school.
