Global excellence foundation launches national thank you day

The Medical Director of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, Dr Emmanuel Srofenyoh has called on the public to appreciate health personnel who continue to deliver on their mandate with little or no resource.

For him, that would help them to improve on their shortfalls and encourage them to do more in that regard.

Speaking at the launch of the National thank you day in Accra on Tuesday, the Medical director called for investment into health personnel in Ghana.

The maiden event organised by the Global Excellence Foundation which will be climaxed with an award ceremony dubbed “National Medical Excellence awards, on November 24th would attract healthcare personnel from various healthcare facilities.

The ceremony is geared towards rewarding individuals rather than the health facility they work in.

Dr Srofenyoh explained that the occasion would presents an opportunity to assess the output of health staff adding that despite the numerous challenges faced by healthcare personnel including inadequate logistics, faulty and worn-out equipment that have outlived their lifespan, absence of modern and sophisticated equipment to aid practice and the longstanding issue of inadequate personnel, they have achieved a lot in improving health service delivery over the years.

“During this period, an assessment is made of our work as healthcare personnel  identify shortcomings and challenges taking cognisance of any strength and weaknesses, formulate plans that are implemented to achieve both staff and clients’ satisfaction,” he said.

Mr Titus Dauda, a representative of the foundation stated that, over the years healthcare personnel have directly or indirectly received little or no appreciation during their entire working lives.

He said there are instances where retired senior ranked healthcare personnel barely have enough to financially cater for their ill health adding that  they are not even recognized by current health personnel at various places where they seek care with no preferential treatments.

“Research has shown that more junior ranked yet active healthcare personnel have ostensibly when seriously taken ill undergone same treatment whilst fully paying for services rendered them even from their places of work of which countless have lost their lives as a result of these conditions”.

“It is in this light that this foundation have embarked on this noble initiative to appreciate the individuals rather than facilities dubbed: Say thank you” he stated

He expressed appreciation to all health workers across the country for the continued sacrifices they were making in caring for people.
