GJA receives books for celebration of Busia’s 50th anniversary

The Busia Institute for Rural and Democratic Development (BIRDD) has donated books to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Dr K. A. Busia’s assumption of office.

The book titled, ‘K. A. Busia A Symbol of Democracy’, was recently launched by the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Presenting copies of the book, the Board Chairman of BIRDD, Mr Kwabena G. Osei-Bonsu, said the book contains the history and ideas of Dr Busia, hence the need to present copies to journalists.

He called on the youth to acquire copies of the book, which contains information for readers to think about and consider in the event of Ghana’s development.

Mr Osei-Bonsu asked the youth to learn or read the country’s history and accomplishments of its leaders, so that they can acquire knowledge to help them contribute to national development.

He touted the achievements of Dr Busia, saying that, “the Progress Party Government prompted free speech, accountable and transparent leadership”.

“Exactly 50 years ago today, there was so much euphoria all over Ghana when the Progress Party administration assumed the reigns of governance in the country’s second attempt at constitutional rule,” he said.

Receiving the books, the President of GJA, Mr Roland Affail Monney, commended the institute for the presentation.

He said the books would help journalists to propagate what Dr Busia stood for, adding that leaders should develop interest in Dr Busia’s ideologies to help develop Ghana
