The Ghana Health Service (GHS) says it is taking steps to ensure the safety and security of its staff across the country.
A statement signed by the acting Director General of GHS, Dr Patrick Kuma Aboagye, following the death of Ruth Ama Eshun, a registered community nurse, in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region, urged staff to remain at post as necessary measures were put in place for their protection.
“The GHS and the Council would like to assure our staff that the service is taking steps, including liaising with the various Regional Coordinating Councils to prioritise the security and safety of all staff across the country.
“We, therefore, wish to encourage our staff to continue to deliver on their mandate as the necessary safety and security measures are advocated,” the statement said.
Expressing shock over the news of the alleged murder, the statement entreated the general public to volunteer relevant information to the police to bring the perpetrators to book.
“The service is relying on the expertise of the Ghana Police Service to unravel the cause of death and bring the perpetrators to face the full rigors of the law as we seek justice for the victim,” it added.
It would be recalled that on February 3, 2020, 30-year old Ms Eshun, a staff nurse at the Sewua Health Centre in the Bosomtwi District of the Ashanti Region, was found dead at a secluded area close to her Ayuom new site residence.
A vigorous social media campaign and public outcry to seek justice for Eshun, has so far seen the arrest of one person in connection with the killing.
Meanwhile the crime scene of the murdered nurse is said to have been set ablaze by unknown suspects, to ostensibly frustrate police investigations, but the police service has given indication that the act would in no way affect investigations as a deconstruction of the crime scene had already been done.
