The Ghana Naval Service yesterday organised a religious parade to climax the 60th anniversary celebration of the Service in Accra.
The event saw various Navy commanders and officers with their families dancing and jubilating in celebration of the anniversary.
The celebration was on the theme: ‘Sixty years of excellence under God’s graciousness: Trusting God for a better future.’
Ms Justice Sophia Akuffo, Chief Justice and the guest speaker at the event, congratulated all the Navy officers for their dedicated service over the years.
She lauded the Ghana Navy for continuously keeping the country’s waters safe despite the description by the International Maritime Bureau (IMB) that the Gulf of Guinea was plagued by lack of security.
“The Ghana Navy has done a lot to make us proud and I thank you for keeping the maritime front safe,” the Chief Justice added.
She urged them to be steadfast in the fight for adequate resources from stakeholders in the naval industry and promised to back them in their fight for aid.
“For the first time I will lend my voice to your cause and help you fight for resources,” Ms Akuffo added.
Most Reverend Titus Awotwi Pratt, Immediate Past Presiding Bishop of Methodist Church Ghana, who preached the day’s sermon charged all officers of the Navy to trust that God had many wonders in store for them.
He stressed the importance of living a moral and upright life as it led one to be disciplined and well respected, which he noted were qualities of an excellent Naval officer.
During the event, four retired officers were awarded plaques for their dedicated service to the Navy.
They were Master Chief Petty Officer (MCPO) Homatekpor, MCPO Abotsi M. K., MCPO Dzorvakpor P. and MCPO Addo Quaye for serving as Master Coxswains of the Ghana Naval Service.
In attendance was the Chief of the Naval Staff Rear Admiral Seth Amoama, Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice-Marshal Frank Hanson and Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Boamah Akwa among other dignitaries.
