Hawazi Daipi, the Singaporean High Commissioner to Ghana, has lauded Ghana for promoting peace and unity in diversity, especially under the Fourth Republican Constitution, to engender stability.
He noted that his country was ready to take advantage of the congenial atmosphere to maximise its investment in the country since it had over the years enjoyed good relationship with Singapore, one of the Asian tigers culminating in the sharing of development experiences.
Mr Daipi, who was speaking during a courtesy call on the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Kumasi, Osei Assibey-Antwi, indicated that such collaboration had come with its own socio-economic advantages to the people adding that “especially in the areas of capacity-building in information, communication and technology (IT) advancement for mutual benefit of the two countries”.
The visit, was to identify investment opportunities in Ghana’s second largest city, which boasts of many investment potentials in the area of tourism and culture, trade and marketing.
Mr Daipi observed that “Singapore attaches importance to environmental sustainability, in pursuance of the objective, it is willing to work with Ghana in attaining the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15.
The goal, emphasises the need to protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably managed forests, combat desertification, halting and reversing land degradation, as well as biodiversity loss.
Earlier, Mr. Assibey-Antwi, elaborated on various projects implemented by the government, including the Free Senior High School, Planting for Food and Jobs, One District, One Factory, One District, One Dam and other novelty programmes structured to make life comfortable for the citizenry.
He explained that “the afforestation initiative is geared towards improving vegetation cover, it is for this reason the assembly has over the last two years implementing a project dubbed: ‘Keep Kumasi Clean and Green’, which has plant various tree species to improve biodiversity”. –GNA
