Ghana Lab tech holds engagement leveraging mobile applications for job creation

Ghana Lab tech, a digital innovation centre, Thursday organised a stakeholders’ engagement on leveraging mobile applications for job creation, especially among the youth.

It was on the theme “Role of mobile application in transforming the local economy for job creation and economic development.”

The stakeholders sought to identify opportunities, key challenges and problems facing the mobile application industry as well as the skills required to satisfy the current mobile application market needs.

The six thematic pillars were Human Capital; Education and Training; Accessible Markets; Government and Regulatory Framework; Professionals, Infrastructure/Hubs; Access Finance and Media, Women and Culture.

Opening the discussion, Andrew Akoto Addo of Ghana Lab said the organisation sought to create opportunities in digital space for the youth by leveraging mobile applications skills development training to create employment opportunities.

He said with the digital penetration in Ghana, the youth were creating jobs and finding opportunities in the digital space as most jobs were created around Information, Communication Technology, and mobile applications.

Kelvin Fosu, Tech Associate with Ghana Lab Tech said opportunities abound in the digital space as companies were building digital platforms and looking for people to develop content for the platforms.

He added that with the COVID-19 global pandemic, mobile application made life easy, faster and created enabling environment for people to work from home in a more secured environment.

The engagement followed an ecosystem mapping programme across 11 regions with the aim of interacting and gathering data from key companies and institutions, while understanding and identifying the entrepreneurial ecosystem culture and gaps in the respective cities.

Ghana Lab Tech found out that despite the benefits of mobile applications and wireless devices in facilitating organisations to conduct businesses more efficiently, the organisations and their customers still lack adequate understanding of the values of mobile applications.

Mobile applications can be used to support e-commerce with customers and suppliers, and to conduct e-business within and across organisational boundaries.
