Ghana Draughts Assoc. inaugurated

A new sports association – the Ghana Draughts Association (GDA)- has been inaugurated by the National Sports Authority (NSA).

And a new executive to run it was officially sworn into office yesterday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The members are James Obeng Afriyie, Chairman; George Amon Neequaye, vice chairman, Mr. Isaac Asare, Secretary; Elton David Anteye Addy, Organiser and Atuoni Gyan-Kyeremeh, Treasurer.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Head of Technical at the NSA, Mr. Kwaku Abeidu Wilson praised the executives for ensuring that draught becomes a recognized national sport.

“Draught is an old sport and required a recognized body and set of rules to make it very popular at the global stage,” he stated.

He added that, the occasion presented a new era for draught in the country as national executives would see to the smooth running of the sport across the districts and regions of the country.

He urged the executives and members to be committed to the sport as it serves all manner of people in society.

The Greater Accra Regional Director of the NSA, Ewuntomah Iddrisu who administered the oath of office urged the executives to ensure that they make the sport popular in at least 10 regions of the country.

Chairman of the GDA, Mr. Afriyie said the sport has come a long way and needed recognition to expand.

“We’ll work together as an association and ensure that the sport grows with support from corporate bodies and other stakeholders,” he stated.
