GFA unveils betPawa as GPL headline sponsor

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has signed a $6million partnership agreement with one of Ghana’s leading online sports betting companies, betPawa, for the next three years.

The initial three-year partnership between betPawa and the GFA signed yesterday at the offices of the GFA in Accra makes betPawa headline sponsors of the Ghana Premier League for the period.

The partnership, according to the FA, was aimed at properly marketing and positioning the elite league to become one of Africa’s most successful and attractive leagues on the continent

In a brief remark after signing the deal, President of the GFA Kurt Okraku, stated that part of the money would go directly to the clubs, while part will go to the players as team match winning bonuses.

“Also part of the money will go into media and marketing and finally part will go into the construction of a betPawa astro turf football pitch at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence.”

Mr Okraku further disclosed that from the deal, his outfit in conjunction with betPawa shall introduce a scheme called the ‘locker room bonuses’, where all 30 to 40 players and the technical team of each winning club, would receive bonuses immediately at the end of every game.”

On his part, renowned AfroPop musician and betPawa stakeholder Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade, publicly known as Mr Eazi, who signed the deal on behalf of betPawa, stated that the company’s high appetite for growing and harnessing talents, creating opportunities and rewarding fans across its markets, are a few of the many reasons for partnering with the GFA.

“At betPawa, we believe in supporting the local game and sports development in general and it is in that spirit we decided to come on board, looking forward to a prosperous mutual benefit partnership.”

He said betPawa was poised to activate a lot of attractive and interactive activities to engage and reward football fans across the country in the course of the partnership.

The 2022/23 betPawa Premier League is scheduled to be launched on September 2, 2022, with the league kicking off on the weekend of September 9-12, 2022.
