Galaxies to receive qualification bonus – Management Chairman Dr Tony Aubynn

Chairman of the Black Galaxies Management Committee, Dr Tony Aubynn, has disclosed that the players would receive qualification bonus should they qualify for the 2023 CHAN tournament.

The Medeama SC Board Member debunked reports in the media that the team received $2,500 bonus following the win against Benin.

Speaking in an interview with Happy Sports, he confirmed that the players were focused on qualifying and would rather receive qualification bonus.

“What we have told the players is the opportunity to play and qualify for the tournament. Even after this qualification, you will see how many clubs will be chasing these players; so the opportunity to showcase your talent is more important than the monetary aspect,” he told Happy Sports.

“The rumours going round that the FA has paid $2,500 as winning bonus to the Black Galaxies is not factual to the best of my knowledge; I have no idea about it.

“The chairman do not pay winning bonus; the period we find ourselves is not about paying winning bonuses but rather is about Ghana beating Nigeria in the next round. Though the players need the money but that is not what they are thinking about for now, but qualifying against Nigeria. Let me say that when that is achieved, a huge package will be given to the team.”

“He said any amount they are due would be given to them but it is a qualification bonus plus per diem and not a winning bonus per match,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dr Aubynn has asked Ghanaians not to applaud the team now as they are yet to achieve their target of qualifying for Algeria.

“We have not done anything yet, but Ghanaians can congratulate and praise the team led by the technical handlers and the playing body for that superb performance against Benin.

“For us as a committee, we are yet to achieve our target which is to make it to the actual tournament in Algeria, come next year. So, reserve the applause and let’s get there first.”

Ghana progressed to the final round of qualifiers after thrashing Benin 4-0 on aggregate in the preliminary round.

The Galaxies won the first leg 3-0 at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium and chalked another 1-0 win in the return last Saturday. – Happy FM
