Anthony Yengdon, 20, an illegal miner, is in police grip for allegedly murdering her wife, mother and sister at Tampaala, a suburb of Jirapa, in the Jirapa Municipality of the Upper West Region.
The victims are the 60-year-old mother of suspect, Bozobo Yengdon, his sister, Rebecca Yengdon, 22, and his wife, Cynthia Dabuo, 45.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Reynolds Manteaw, the Upper West Regional Police Crime Officer, who confirmed the femicide, which is the killing of women, to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Wa, said an eight-month-old baby, also suffered injures following the incident.
The prosecution said that the baby was currently on admission at the St. Joseph’s Hospital at Jirapa.
ASP Manteaw said the three women were confirmed dead at the same hospital on arrival and the bodies had been deposited at the morgue awaiting post-mortem, while the suspect was in police custody to assist in investigations.
The court heard that Kantuban Dabuo reported to the police at Jirapa at about 10pm last Sunday, that Yengdon hit the victims with a stick, killing them instantly.
ASP Manteaw said the report indicated that the suspect, an illegal miner, popularly known as ‘galamseyer’, had returned from a drinking spot that evening before engaging in the act.
He said Rebecca Yengdon was carrying the baby at the back, when the incident occurred. – GNA
