Retired Officers Association of the Ghana Armed Forces has presented a cheque for GH¢35,000 to the 37 Military Hospital to assist in caring for retired officers during this Coronavirus pandemic.
Presenting the cheque, the president of the Association, Brigadier General (retd)Kwame Opong Kyekyeku said the money was raised during an annual thanksgiving service by the members of the association.
According to him, members of the association were aged and needed quality healthcare, hence the presentation.
He said though the country was currently battling with Coronavirus, there were other diseases that should be taken care of.
“Unfortunately COVID-19 is here with us, we all know that the old men and women are at a higher risk, therefore we must take care of ourselves,” he said.
Brig. Gen Kyekyeku said the executives would discuss with members in order to raise more funds to support the COVID-19 fund.
He appealed to the public, especially the aged to adopt healthy lifestyle practices to protect them from the disease.
The president urged the public to abide by the healthy protocols by washing their hands with soap and water under running water, eating balanced diet to boost their immune system, using of face masks and sanitisers.
Receiving the cheque, the Commander of 37 Military Hospital, Brigadier General Nii Adjah Obodai commended the association saying that the money would either be used for installation of heaters in some of the wards where the aged are admitted to aid in warm water bath or improve the intercom system.
“We have plans fixing heaters for the old, most of the heaters are not working so water has to be manually boiled for them to bath,” he said.
