Ga West Municipality tops education sector on 2021 District League Table

The Ga West Municipality in Accra has emerged first in the education sector on the 2021District League Table (DTL) with a score of 90.16 per cent, maintaining its 2020 position as the best performing municipality in education.

The Awutu Senya East Municipality in the Central Region and the Kpone-Katamanso Municipality in Accra follow with a score of 86.53 per cent and 84.64 per cent respectively.

This was contained in the 2021 DLT report launched in Accra on Wednesday by the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on the theme “Generating Evidence for Addressing Unequal Access to Services and Development Opportunities for Children.”

The 2021 DLT Report was the seventh edition which was built on the progress of work accomplished over the six editions and provided an assessment of the levels of development across all the 261 Metropolises, Municipalities and the Districts (MMDs) in the country based on selected indicators from health, nutrition, education, water, sanitation, energy and governance.

The report said that the Ablekuma West Municipality followed with 81.28 per cent then the Adentan Municipality with 78.98 per cent and the Gomoa East District with 71.24 per cent.

According to the report, the Ayawaso North Municipality had also maintained its position as the lowest ranked MMD in education as it did in 2020, signalling that there were important structural and persistent problems that were needed to be diagnosed through research and uprooted with specific policies targeted at the people in the municipality.

The report said that the net enrollment ratios for both primary and junior high school (JHS) for Ayawaso North Municipality were as low as 47.4 per cent and 23.7 per cent, compared to the country’s average of 105.8 per cent and 51.3 per cent respectively.

“Also, the completion rates for primary and JHS in the municipality were 31.7 per cent and 26.1 per cent, compared to the average of 115.9 per cent and 86.4 per cent in country,” it added.
