The Ga South Municipal Assembly has presented tools and working equipment valued at more than GH₵II8, 242 to 28 People Living with Disabilities (PWDs) at Galilee in the municipality last Friday.
The beneficiaries included 17 males and 11 females
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr Joseph Nyarni, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) said the items which were procured through the District Assembly Common Fund were to economically empower them to become financially independent.
It would also enable them to support their families and contribute their quota to the socio-economic development of their communities, and earn respect in the eyes of the public and consequently become fully integrated into mainstream development.
According to the MCE five of the beneficiaries had already been supported with school fees amounting to GH₵10,564.05.
Under the health sector, he said two of the PWDs had been supported with assertive devices (prosthetics and hearing aids) amounting to GH₵10,500.00.
In his welcome address, Mr Godfrey Saim, head of the social welfare , hoped that timely release of the common fund would help his office discharge his duties effectively.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ga South, Mr Sylvester Tetteh, admonished the beneficiaries to use the items for their intended purpose to improve upon their lot.
