Ga South Assembly forms task force for revenue mobilisation

The Ga South Municipal Assembly has mobilised GH¢2,861,180.46, representing 59.61 per cent of its Internally Generated Fund (IGF) estimate, for 2019.

It is, therefore, considering engaging the services of a task force to assist the assembly to effectively collect taxes and property rates, to increase revenue towards development projects.

Mr Joseph Nyarni Stephen, Ga Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), who announced these at the Third Ordinary Meeting of the Assembly, at Ngleshie Amanfro, said the assembly would also seek the approval of a contract with a legal firm, to help take legal action on rate defaulters.

Mr Nyarni Stephen appealed to assembly members to educate residents and property owners on payment of property rates, to improve the IGF.

On the District Assembly Common Fund, the MCE said, the assembly received GH¢834,634.30 as its share of the fourth quarter of 2018 and first quarter of 2019.

Mr Nyarni Stephen said the funds would be used for capital expenditure as captured in the budget, adding that the assembly would continue to support education in the municipality, to eliminate ignorance and poverty.

He indicated that the assembly has already provided 800 mono and dual desks for schools, and secured approval by Ghana Education Trust Fund for the building of three six-unit classroom blocks with toilet facilities, at communities including Akweimen, Ngleshie Amanfrom and Tuba.

Mr Nyarni Stephen said, the Assembly has started work on Community-based Health Planning Services at Domeabra Fankyenekor, and that communities would benefit from the plan, to improve healthcare.

He said, the Assembly has placed 50 street litter bins at some bus stops along the Sampa Velley to Tuba Junction stretch of the highway, as part of the President’s’ initiatives to make Accra clean through the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources.
