Pupils in basic schools above 15 years have been urged to go for the Pfitzer vaccine to protect them from the COVID-19 pandemic.
They have also been advised to strictly adhere to the protocols by constantly washing hands under running water with soap, always wear mask when out and endeavour to use hand sanitisers
The Director of Theatre For Social Change, a non-governmental organisation Johnson Kefome gave these advises at a day’s COVID-19 sensitisation programme for pupils of the Frafraha Orphanage in the Adentan Municipality in the Greater Accra Region and sponsored by the UNICEF Ghana.
According to him, new variants of the pandemic keep on emerging hence the need to increase efforts at reaching out to the younger ones to actually know that the virus exists and the slightest slip could cost them their lives.
The Director said the Ghana Health Service last year rolled out vaccination for children 15 to 17 years to protect them against the disease.
Mr Kefome indicated that the time has come to reach out to the pupils who are in school who would in turn sanitise their communities on the need to get the jab.
The NGO, he explained, was operating in two regions. Greater Accra and the Ashanti and assured that everything possible would be done to achieve the targeted numbers.
On lead poisoning, the Director said most domestic products including plastic chairs, paints, roofing sheets, parts of computers and other electrical gadgets all contain some form of lead which is dangerous to the human.
Adding that “the NGO would increase its partnership with UNICEF, Ghana to create awareness on the dangers of lead poisoning in order to bring sustainable transformation on awareness levels to improve lives in health , education and economic livelihoods.
The Odikro of Obuom in the Eastern Region commended the NGO for the thoughtful programme and urged them to extend it to other schools in municipality.
