Former Greater Accra Minister Ishmeal Ashitey dies

The immediate past Greater Accra Regional Minister, Ishmeal Ashitey, 68, on Friday passed awayat the International Maritime Hospital in Tema.

Mr Felix Mensah Nii Annan La, former Municipal Chief Executive of Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA), confirmed the death of late Ashitey who served as Greater Accra Regional Minister in the first term of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to the Ghana News Agency in Tema.

Mr Annan La stated that the news of the demise of Ashitey came as a surprise to him, the family and the New Patriotic Party fraternity.

He said that the former regional minister died after he returned from the United States of America a few days ago, where he went for medical checkup.

Mr Annang La said, “I am a product of some of the young politicians the late Ashitey mentored in Tema, including Mr Titus Glover, the former Tema East Member of Parliament, and such a personality needed to be celebrated even in death”.

The late Ashitey, who was born on November 20, 1954, was a product of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, where he obtained an Executive Masters in Governance and Leadership.

Ashitey was a Mechanical Engineer and served as the Member of Parliament for Tema East Constituency in the second, third, and fourth Parliaments of the fourth Republic of Ghana. – GNA
