Former Ashanti Regional Director of Audit Service perish, 5 others sustain injuries after fire 5-bedroom house in Aburaso

Former Ashanti Regional Director of the Ghana Audit Service has been burnt to death after a blazing fire swept through his house at Aburaso, in the AtwimaKwanwoma District of Ashanti.

Mr Stephen Dapaah, 71, also had his five bedroom house destroyed by the fire that also left five others with serious injuries.

The fire was said to have started at about 1:00am on Saturday.

According to the Ashanti Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) Henry Giwa, the deceased was trapped in one of the rooms when the fire started.

His charred body was found by personnel of the GNFS after the incident.

The GNFS,he said, has initiated investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire.

The body has also been deposited at the mortuary of KomfoAnokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), while the injured are also receiving treatment at the same Hospital.

This comes barely three weeks after a 37 year old pregnant woman, and her two sons, got burnt to death in a ravaging fire at Ohwim in the Bantama sub-metro in Kumasi.

The deceased, Philomena Osei, her nine and seven years children could not escape the ravaging fire when it started around 11.30 pm,on Monday, August 15, 2022.

They were said to have got trapped in their three-bedroom apartment.

Fortunately, one of the siblings, a 14-year-old who was sleeping in a separate room managed to escape unhurt.

GNFS are yet to tell the cause of the fire.

Two weeks after that incident, a fire swept through a plastic waste recycling factory at  Kronum-Cement-Mu, in the AfigyaKwabre South District in the Ashanti region, destroying machines among other items running into thousands of Ghana Cedis.

About five apartments,on top of the factory building were badly destroyed but other five, very close to it, were partially burnt by the fire that started at about 2am, in the factory.

An 18-year-old boy was burnt to death as he was said to have been trapped in an attempt to use an extinguisher to fight the blazing fire in his father’s apartment.

His charred remains were discovered by the fire personnel.
