Food vendor jailed 5 years for stealing gadgets

An Adenta Circuit Court has jailed Seth Ahiable, a food vendor, five years, for breaking into the offices of Proxynet Communication Limited, at Otinshe, near East Legon, Accra, and stealing gadgets.

Ahiable pleaded not guilty to conspiracy, stealing and unlawful entry into the Information Technology firm.

Ahiable and three other accomplices, Francis Duyor, aka “Wales”, Dickson Mortey and Daniel Brainy, all at large, stole Conference Cameras, HP Laptops, Microphone Pods and webcam.

Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo told the court, presided over by Mrs Sedinam Awo Balokah, that the complainant was Constantine Olukweku, the Country Manager, Proxynet Communication Limited.

The prosecution said on November 1, last year, when complainant reported to work, a worker informed Olukweku that the office’s storeroom had been broken into and the gadgets stolen.

Chief Insp Lanyo said later when the complainant was browsing on Jiiji, an online market platform, he came across Logitech Rally Mic Pod, displayed by Ransford Kwame Asare, and he invited Asare.

Prosecution said the complainant feigned interest in buying the item and asked Asare to provide him with the serial number of the gadgets.

Chief Insp Lanyo said Asare ‘texted’ the serial number to the complainant and when he checked on the company’s system, it marched with the stolen gadgets.

The court heard that Asare was asked to bring the gadget to East Legon for sale and payment, and when Asare showed, he was nabbed and during interrogation, he mentioned Ahiable as the one who gave him the gadget to sell for him.

It said Ahiable was also arrested, and he led the police to where he resided as a caretaker.  -GNA
