The First Lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has asked the New Patriotic Party (NPP) women to bury their differences, rise up and face the big challenge ahead of them in Election 2020.
She said some people refuse or pretend not to see the many developmental projects executed by the NPP government in the three years, but urged them not to “let them set the agenda for us, let us blow our own trumpet and tell them the good story”.
The First Lady mentioned government flagship projects, including Nation Builders Corps, Planting for Food and Jobs and One District, One Factory, aimed at bringing relief to Ghanaians.
Mrs Akufo-Addo was addressing the National Women’s Conference of NPP at Sekondi College, near Essipuun in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis of the Western Region, on the theme: “NPP women on the move for victory 2020 and beyond”.
She said women’s wing was the foundation of the NPP, and without the group the party could not stand fully on its feet.
Mrs Akufo-Addo noted that women through their managerial skills were contributing to socio-economic development of families and the country at large.
Mrs Akufo-Addo admitted that the first term in government has not been easy at all, but asked women to help NPP retain power, so that it can continue with its programmes to improve the lot of Ghanaians.
The NPP National Chairman, Mr Freddie Blay, said that the NPP government could not use only four years to repair the damage done to the economy.
He asked NPP women ‘to go to all corners of the country and campaign seriously to retain the party in power, adding the NPP executives would continue to support women to move forward.
The Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, encouraged women to stand up tall in the party, and work hard to retain the NPP in power.
She said if Ghanaians vote for the main opposition party, the National Democratic Party, ‘suffering would return to Ghana.’
The General Secretary of NPP, Mr John Boadu said the women’s wing of the party had been most vibrant since the party’s formation in 2003.
He said the women’s wing has played a very important role by raising funds to support the party.
The NPP National Women Organiser, Kate Gyamfua added that, President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had given many women the opportunity to serve in government in positions which were reserved for only men.
She said the women’s wing would move to the remotest areas of Ghana to spread the good news of the NPP government for Ghanaians to vote and retain it in power in 2020.
The Upper East Women’s Organiser, Mrs Georgina Ayamba, said the meeting was to mobilise NPP women to work for victory next year.
The chairperson for the opening conference, Mrs Rita Talata Asobayire asked NPP women to work hard to retain the party in power.
