The First Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Maxwell Opoku-Afari, has been inducted as a Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences (GAAS).
According to GAAS, Dr Opoku-Afari had been inducted into the Academy because of his contribution to the country’s development.
“Dr Maxwell Opoku-Afari, on account of your noteworthy contribution to policy-relevant research and modernisation of monetary policy frameworks in low-income and developing countries, you were elected Fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences on 20th October 2022. Congratulations,” a citation presented to him, said.
Dr Opoku-Afari was inducted into the GAAS at a short ceremony in Accra yesterday.
The programme was witnessed by the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
President of GAAS, Emeritus Professor Samuel Kofi Sefa-Dedeh, who inducted Dr Opoku-Afari into the Academy, lauded for his meritorious service to the country over the years.
He said the First Deputy Governor, was one distinguished scholar who had excelled in his career and contributed a lot the country.
The Vice President in charge of Arts of GAAS, Prof. Kofi Opoku Nti, said Dr Opoku-Afari, was inducted into the Academy on October 20, 2022.
Dr Opoku-Afari expressed gratitude to the President and Council of GAAS for the honour done him.
He said his induction into the GAAS would spur him to work harder for the development of the country.
The Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences was founded in 1959 on the initiative of Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
The first Black Academy in Africa, its aims are generally to promote the pursuit, advancement and dissemination of knowledge in all branches of the sciences and the humanities.
