Final 2021 Gold Fields PGA pre-tourney qualifier tees off today

Over 50 golfers will converge on the Celebrity Golf Course today when the second pre-tournament qualifiers for this year’s Gold Fields PGA Championship tees off.

The three-day championship will end on Thursday with 24 regular professional golfers expected to qualify depending on their total gross score.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Tournament Director for PGA of Ghana, AkwasiPrempehsaid all was set for the last qualifier to produce the last round of players to make up the 24 to be joined by 15 PGA senior golfers and 15 foreign golfers to battle for honours in the Gold Fields PGA Damang Championship.

MrPrempeh explained that the foreign players would have their own order of merit to qualify for the championship.

The foreign players will include Nigerian golfer, Christopher Francis, who won the Championship two years ago and would be guaranteed an automatic qualification for this year’s event because he was not allowed to participate last year due to Covid-19 restriction.

He said this year’s event will attract golfers from South Africa, UK,Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal, Nigeria, Togo, Zimbabwe, Congo, Mali, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea and others.
