District court at Ofankor, Accra, has remanded Gideon Tetteh, 57, a farmer, in police custody for allegedly murdering his 45-year-old wife, Sabina Bonney.
The court presided over by Mr Eric OhenebaAntwiBoasiako, adjourned the case to September 1, whilst awaiting legal advice on the case from the Attorney Generals’ (AG) Office.
Prosecuting, Detective Chief Inspector Godwin Akpaloo said accused had been married to Bonneyfor 23 years, and they have five children.
The court heard that Tettehpurchased land at Mankomeda, near Kasoa, in the Central Region, on which the wife constructed a two-bedroom apartment.
Chief InpAkpaloo said accused registered the land in his name as well as documents covering the building, and this resulted in a misunderstanding between the couple.
He said although the wife financed the construction, Tetteh threatened her with death whenever she asked for the documents.
The court heard that last Monday, whilst their children were in school, accused dragged his wife into the room and forcefully had sex with her.
Chief InspAkpaloosaid Tetteh also allegedly hit the wife’s head with a pestle, locked the door and left her in a pool of blood.
Prosecution said in a haste to flee the scene, Tetteh exchanged his phone with that of his wife, and when their children returned from school, they saw their mother in a pool of blood and raised the alarm.
Chief InspAkpaloo said that after several calls to his wife’s phone, which was in possession of accused, he later answered and showed up at the JeiKrodua Clinic, where he was arrested, but denied the offence in a police statement. -GNA
