Fake kidnapping story case: Student bonded to be of good behaviour

A  Takoradi district court yesterday ordered 18-year-old student , Anthony Osei Prempeh,  who faked kidnap story, to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for one year or in default go to jail for three months.

He pleaded guilty before the court for faking a kidnap story in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis on February 6, this year.

Evelyn Christ Agyapong, 19, and Caleb Winrith Nii Ayitey Tagoe, who pleaded not guilty in the fake kidnapping story case would appear again on March 21, 2019.

Meanwhile, De-Vreeze Quaynoo, 17, Daniel Kwasi Essien, 17, and Elijah Sam 16, all students in the same case would appear on the same date to enable the jurors to decide their fate since they were juveniles.

The accused were charged with conspiracy to commit crime and deceiving a public officer last week Thursday, where the juveniles were released to their parents while Caleb and Evelyn Agyapong were remanded in custody.

Lawyer J E K Abakah, who pleaded for the accused, said all of them have regretted the action they took and have shown great remorse.

 He pleaded with the judge to temper mercy with justice since it was the first time they acted in ignorance.

The judge, Mr Michael Ampadu, said he took into consideration the plea by Mr Abakah and that accused were so young and conviction could mar their future lives.

According to Inspector Ahensan, accused have been given enough time to go back to school because some of them would write their final examination.

It would be recalled, that the Ghanaian Times reported in its Friday, March 15, 2019 edition kidnapping case, involving students of the Ghana Secondary Technical School in Takoradi.
