An Egyptian company, Euroget Group has donated a cheque for GH¢100,000 to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) for its70th anniversary celebration.
The amount is earmarked for sponsoring the gold category of the GJA awards.
Speaking at a short ceremony at the office of the Euroget Group in Cantonments, Accra, the President of the GJA, Roland Affail Monney commended the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company, Dr Said Deraz for the donation.
According to Mr Monney, Dr Derez was a firm believer in media development and that, for businesses to grow there was the need for media involvement.
He stated that there was a relation between the media and development, hence the need for strong collaboration between the business environment and the media.
The GJA president indicated that the association would oppose fraudulent businessmen as well as business that undermine the media in the country, “but we will support good and genuine business to thrive.”
Mr Monney commended Dr Derez for the support towards the association’s celebration, saying that it was the beginning of a fruitful relationship between the company and the media.
On his part, Dr Derez pledged his outfit’s continuous support to the media in Ghana and the GJA in particular.
He said Ghana was a business hub for West Africa, adding that “Ghana is a rich country, because it is endowed with natural resources such as gold, oil, diamond and bauxite,” and its people were hospitable.
Dr Derez expressed his outfit’s readiness to help tackle illegal mining by bringing together all small-scale miners to form a co-operative, explaining that the cooperative would be registered to give backing to the work they do to facilitate the regulation of the sector.
“Another investment we will like to go into is agriculture, because Ghana has vast virgin land and lot of water, which is good for agriculture,” stressing on the need for Ghana to partner other countries to invest in the agricultural sector.
