The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that Ademola Lookman has finally gotten approval to switch his allegiance to the Super Eagles.
The Leicester City winger was born in England to Nigerian parents and is eligible for the national teams of both countries having represented the European country from under-19 to under-21 levels.
However, Lookman applied to FIFA to change his national allegiance to Nigeria last year and the application has now been approved by the world football’s governing body.
This has been confirmed by the NFF president Amaju Pinnick, who said Lookman has now been cleared by FIFA to wear the Nigerian jersey.
“I’m also glad to announce that the work we’ve put in has ensured that on-loan Leicester City winger, Ademola Lookman’s application to change his nationality and represent Nigeria has been approved by FIFA,” Pinnick wrote on his official Twitter page.
“Lookman was part of England’s title win at the 2017 Under-20 World Cup and brings a winning mentality to our team. I can’t wait to see him make our Super Eagles that more formidable.”
The 24-year-old, whose full name is Ademola Lookman Olajade Alade Aylola Lookman, is currently on loan at Leicester from German Bundesliga side, RB Leipzig.
Lookman helped England’s Under-20 team win the 2017 FIFA U-20 World Cup in South Korea as he scored three goals in the tournament.
He could be included in the Nigeria squad which will face Ghana in the final round of the 2021 FIFA World Cup qualification next month. – africanfootball.com
