Engage in issue-based campaign – Ako Gunn

The Deputy Communication Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Ako Gunn, has urged aspirants and their supporters to engage in issue-based campaign and avoid campaign that will slur opponents.

He said the call was necessary because some supporters of aspirants were engaged in attacks on their opponents which brought division after internal elections which delayed the process towards unity since the loser might have suffered character assassination.

“Our ability to hold ourselves together, campaign devoid of insults and personal attacks, will let aspirants accept they lost on fair, credible and transparent competition and compel them to join the main campaign.

“Most of the time, we spend too much time uniting victors and losers and if that happens we may be shooting ourselves in the foot which may affect the fortunes of the party at the 2024 polls,” Mr Gunn cautioned.

He made the call at the launch of a welfare scheme and awards ceremony organised by NDC Okaiman East Ward under the Anyaa Sowutuom Constituency in Accra which was on the theme: ‘Empowering the grassroots – A driving force for success in the 2024 Elections.’

Mr Gunn noted that the 2024 elections would be a choice between leadership that comes prepared and ready to lead from day one or continuation of the current disastrous reality government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He charged faithful, sympathisers and well-wishers of the party in various branches to exhibit more loyalty, commitment and dedication so that the NDC would be victorious in the 2024 elections.

The Ward Coordinator for Nii Okaiman East, Jerry Zodano, stated that the welfare scheme was to address challenges at the branches and reduce over dependency on the constituency, adding that leadership at the ward had constituted a seven-member management board, formed from among members in order to ensure prudent management of funds.

“These officers will attend to the welfare of members, based on sets of regulations and guidelines that have been developed, the scheme will ensure those who toiled for the party at their prime stage are supported and assisted in times of need,” Mr Zodano assured.
